"Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life, and they also hold the key to meeting many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. From its inception, one of the principal goals of science education has been to cultivate students' scientific habits of mind, develop their capability to engage in scientific inquiry, and teach them how to reason in a scientific context. The actual doing of science or engineering can pique students' curiosity, capture their interest, and motivate their continued study."
A Framework for K12 Science Education, National Research Council, 2012
Science education in MMSD engages students in coherent, rigorous, and relevant instruction to more deeply understand the world around them. The Curriculum & Instruction science staff provides support to K-12 science teachers in planning consistent, high quality student instruction that engages students in the science and engineering practices, core ideas, and cross cutting concepts to ensure they are knowledgeable consumers of scientific and technological information.
